Short Description: Family-friendly camping with multiple projects for people of all ages.
Long Description: This is a Base Camp Event car camping. You are encouraged to stay over Thursday night to acclimate. Food will be provided Thursday night through Sunday Lunch. Volunteers can work Friday, Saturday and Sunday, you do not have to be at the event for all three days. We will have volunteer work available for all ages. Experienced crew leaders will train volunteers in general trail maintenance techniques and safe usage of hand tools. We will be removing brush and trees, repairing water bars, and installing water diversion structures on the trails that continue rehabilitation of the 4 miles of recreational hiking trail from Quaking Aspen to Camp Nelson. A primitive solar shower setup will be provided. There is no charge for this event, base camp operations usually cost at least $3,000 with 30-50 people participating that equals $60 to $100 per person. Please consider making a donation online or bringing a donation to the event to cover that cost. More detailed information will be sent to you after you sign up.
Work Activities: This project will provide to the public a safe and unimpeded passage to the trail. The work will include contouring portions of the path and building earthen water bars for erosion control, if needed. Materials such as dead brush may be dragged to the site to help break the visual line of the path. Trail reconstruction will consist of mainly hand work. This will include construction of stairs, rebuilding of the trail bed, construction of water bars, bucking of down trees, brushing of overgrown portions of the trail, and other standard trail construction needs dictated by the lay of the trail.
